【reliable】Our ferro rod fire starter is a highly effective ferrocerium rod that is made from magnesium and mischmetal, an alloy that produces sparks when struck. Length: 4.5″(11.5cm). Diameter: 3/8″(1cm). This size of our ferrocerium rod is more durable and can be used thousands of times. It is large enough to produce a shower of sparks and small enough to carry. It can easily ignite fires in any weather conditions, even when wet.
【Easy to use】The 4 ft braided paracord lanyard is securely attached to the ferro rod, providing a comfortable grip that won’t come off. It also includes a striker that’s integrated into the paracord, ensuring you are always prepared to start a fire. The striker is made from high-hardness steel with a unique arc design that maximizes the shower of hot sparks. It can be used with either your left or right hand for scraping.
【How to use】Before first use, you need to scrape away the coating of the ferro rod to expose shiny metal. Then you can follow the steps to easily ignite a fire with the ferro rod.
Step 1. Gather some effective tinder such as cotton balls, tissues, jute twine, fine fibers, or dry grass, etc. Tear the tinder as small as possible and make sure the tinder is dry enough to make it easier to ignite. Do not use materials that are difficult to ignite as tinder, such as larger branches, harder and thicker paper, or grass that is not dry enough, etc.
Step 2. Place the end of the ferro rod close to the tinder to make sure the sparks are hot enough and thrown onto the pile of tinder. Use the sharp edge of the striker, angled at about 45 degrees, to forcefully strike the ferro rod several times to release sparks aimed at the tinder pile until it ignites. (Scraping a longer length on the ferro rod will result in more sparks. You can also scrape some magnesium from the ferro rod onto the tinder to make it easier to ignite.)
Step 3. Feed the flame with kindling and larger branches to let the fire burn. Once you know how to use it, the ferro rod will be very useful and easy to use.
【Important tips】1. If no spark. Please confirm using the sharp edge of the scraper and forcefully scrape the ferro rod. When the scraper is at a 45-degree angle to the ferro rod, it will make it easier to scrape sparks. Scraping a longer length on the ferro rod will result in more sparks.
2. If the tinder can’t be ignited, 1. Make sure the ferro rod is close to the tinder. 2. The tinder may not be dry or fine enough; replace it. Scrape some ferro powder onto the tinder to make it easier to ignite.
